DST-NRF Internship Programme 2010/11
The Department of Science & Technology (DST) in partnership with the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Southern African Research & Innovation Management Association (SARIMA), are sponsoring full-time internships for young South Africans who wish to further their careers in research management, research support and administration. Call for applications: Vrije University Amsterdam-NRF Desmond Tutu Doctoral Programme
In support of the drive to increase the number of South African doctoral graduates, VU Amsterdam and the NRF have introduced the Vrije University Amsterdam– NRF Desmond Tutu Doctoral Programme for South African students seeking to pursue research doctoral studies. Call for applications: Evaluation and Rating
Applicants are invited to submit applications for evaluation and rating at nrfinterim.nrf.ac.za. The document 'Guidelines and instructions for completing the application for evaluation and rating' contains detailed guidelines and instructions for completing the online application for evaluation and rating and MUST be consulted before completing the application. The NRF's closing date for applications is 28 February 2010 but please refer to the Research Office at your institution to ascertain their internal closing date. The NRF's Support Desk can be contacted by telephone (012 481-4202) or by email (supportdesk@nrf.ac.za).

Important notice: Review of the Peer Review System used for the Assessment of Grant Applications
The NRF is about to review the processes it uses to manage peer review for the purposes of making grant awards. All researchers are encouraged to participate in this process by attending one of the four regional focus group meetings. More about the review is available at this website www.technoscene.co.za/nrfreview. Participants are kindly asked to register for the meeting they will attend through this website. The agenda for each meeting and five key questions used to structure the meeting are provided.

Incentive funding for rated researchers
The NRF will not be posting a Call for Incentive budget motivations in the near future, but will invite researchers to apply for Incentive funding as and when funds become available. Click here to view the framework document.

Knowledge Fields Development Directorate Development Grants
The Directorate for Knowledge Fields Development (KFD) is mandated to promote new knowledge, push the boundaries of existing knowledge and associated research capacity by stimulating and developing the entire spectrum of knowledge fields. Communiqué regarding the Blue Sky Research Programme
In September 2008 the NRF issued a call for Blue Sky Research Programme applications. The call closed at the end of October 2008 and 286 applications were submitted to this programme. The assessment process was concluded in April 2009 and 23 applications were approved for support. Click here to read the communiqué.
