KFD
The Knowledge Fields Development Directorate facilitates the creation of new knowledge and research capacity within the context of South Africa's research and development challenges and strategic initiatives.
This is done by focusing on:
- the advancement of the frontiers of existing knowledge; and
- the development of new fields of knowledge.
Understanding and where possible enabling the associated research capacity needs in these areas is an integral part of all KFD activities. This is achieved by:
- promoting interaction between researchers;
- strengthening scientific and professional organisations;
- investigating, mapping and analysing research interests and trends;
- refining or redefining research calls.
The broad aim of KFD is to facilitate the creation of new knowledge and research capacity within the context of national research and developmental challenges. This is achieved by pushing back the frontiers of existing knowledge and expertise, and developing new fields of knowledge and associated research capacity.
KFD achieves these goals by:
- Investigating, mapping and analysing research interests and trends within and across disciplines and knowledge fields;
- Promoting active interaction between researchers within and across disciplines and knowledge fields;
- Strengthening scientific and professional organisations in the South African research community; and
- Refining and redefining research calls in view of the above developmental interventions.
