Rationale for M&E
M&E is a cross-cutting function in the NRF and the services provided by the NRF M&E unit focus on:
- the evaluation and rating of individual researchers.
- the review of programmes, disciplines and initiatives across the scientific disciplines (for external and internal stakeholders),
- using datasets emanating from the above to provide strategic information, and
- advice on developing monitoring frameworks for RISA programmes.
Current scope of M&E
- Evaluation and rating of individual researchers at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and approved research entities,
- reviews of internal and external programmes/initiatives, and
- provision of evaluation and rating data to support strategic decision- making in the NRF.
