The development and retention of high-end scientific and technological competencies is essential for South Africa to transform into a knowledge-based economy wherein the generation of new knowledge and scientific and technological innovations can bring about economic development, job creation and an improvement in the quality of life of its citizens. State-of-the-art research infrastructure, linked to the development of highly skilled knowledge-workers, is a prerequisite for the generation of globally competitive new knowledge and technologies in the twenty first century.
In order to fulfil this mandate, the National Research Foundation (NRF) has initiated, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Infrastructure Funding Instrument that support the acquisition, upgrade and development, of state-of-the-art research equipment. In order to achieve this objective, this funding instrument, National Equipment Programme (NEP) was established.
The Call for Proposals in the NEP funding instrument will be open from Tuesday, 10 April 2018. The closing date will be Thursday, 17 May 2018.
No late applications will be considered.
The application process will be accessible online at https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za from Tuesday, 10 April 2018. Applicants are advised to complete their proposals as soon as possible to prevent IT system overload near the closing date.
Potential applicants should be alerted to the institution’s internal closing date, which should be at least two weeks prior to the NRF closing date.
