The National Research Foundation (NRF) and the FirstRand Foundation (FRF) have partnered to pursue the goal of increasing the proportion of suitably qualified Black (especially African Black) academic staff and academic staff with disabilities, at South African public universities, by establishing the NRF-FRF Sabbatical Grant funding instrument.
The NRF requests Deputy Vice-Chancellors (DVC) for research or equivalent, at each of the country`s public universities to identify and nominate suitable candidates, through an internal process, to apply for this sabbatical grant. For detailed information pertaining to this call, please refer to the attached Framework as well as the Application and Funding Guide.
Institutions may nominate candidates to apply for funding in one of the following two tracks:
- Doctoral Sabbatical Grant: for applicants registered for a doctoral degree; and
- Postdoctoral Sabbatical Grant: for applicants intending to pursue postdoctoral research training.
A maximum of eight (8) applications will be allowed per institution in each call for applications and at least four (4) of these must be for a doctoral sabbatical grant. Nominated applicants’ must apply on the NRF online submission system at: https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za.
Only individuals nominated by their DVC may respond to this call for applications.
The application deadline for applicants is Thursday, 17 May 2018.
