The Third South Africa-Japan University Forum (SAJU) was held during 15 and 16 July 2017 in Tokyo, Japan. The Forum, established in 2007, provides a dedicated and strategic platform for research and development engagement between higher education institutions in the two countries.

During 3-7 July 2017, the NRF is hosting more than 100 representatives of science granting councils, universities, embassies and science ministries from 18 African countries for a stakeholder engagement workshop and the Science Granting Councils Initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa Annual Regional Meeting (ARM) in Pretoria, South Africa. The workshops present an opportunity to share experiences, network, and engage in robust discussions to support effectiveness in the implementation of science granting council mandates.

Prof Felix Dapare Dakora
Prof Felix Dapare Dakora, Plant and Soil Biotechnology Professor at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria and NRF grantholder, has been appointed President of the African Academy of Science (AAS), leading the body's new Governing Council for a three-year term. Prof Dakora replaces Prof Aderemi Kuku, a Nigeria-born mathematician who was President from 2014 to 2017.
