Sustainable Development Through Knowledge Creation
The quest for knowledge, to understand and to solve problems is what propels the expansion of humanity’s horizons, leading to improvements in our quality of life and fulfilment of our curiosity.
Making these advances possible are individuals who, through their quest to know and the diligent application of their knowledge and creativity, are helping to shape a future for South Africa that is marked by sustainable development through knowledge creation.
The NRF will be honouring some of these individuals.
Where and When?
This year, the NRF Awards is taking place on 14 September 2017 at the Central University of Technology (CUT), Bloemfontein.
Who will be honoured?
The awardees to be honoured at this year’s ceremony are those South African researchers who have obtained A- and P- ratings during the recent NRF rating cycle, as well as recipients of various other awards that recognise individuals for exceptional contributions towards developing human capacity and knowledge generation in South Africa.
The theme for the 2017 NRF Awards is Sustainable Development through Knowledge Creation.
It spotlights the role of knowledge creation in supporting and enabling South Africa’s sustainable development as envisaged in the National Development Plan. Through the research supported by the NRF, critical knowledge is being developed to assist our country’s efforts towards inclusive and sustainable economic growth; social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction; resource efficiency and environmental protection, and mitigation of the effects of climate change, amongst others.
