Call for proposals: Mathematics Education and Numeracy and Literacy Research Chairs Initiative

FirstRand Foundation South African Mathematics Education Chairs and South African Numeracy and Literacy Chairs- 2010/11

The South African Numeracy and Literacy Chairs Initiative is an outcome of the commitment of the FirstRand Foundation, in partnership with the Rand Merchant Bank Fund (RMB Fund) and the Anglo American Chairman's Fund, to numeracy and literacy in the foundation phase of primary school education. It is being implemented in cooperation with the National Research Foundation, which will administer the SA Numeracy and Literacy Chairs Initiative on behalf of the FirstRand Foundation and the Anglo American Chairman's Fund.

This joint investment has provided for four Chairs - two Maths Education Chairs and two Numeracy and Literacy Chairs that will be supported for a period of five years.

Interested candidates that are currently involved in the field of mathematics education and numeracy and literacy are invited to apply. Individuals whose profiles match those advertised in the concept paper must apply to the NRF on or before 10 March 2010. The application form includes a list of institutions that are eligible to host the Chairs, candidates are therefore asked to indicate a desired host institution.
