South Africa - Spain Joint S&T Research - CALL CLOSED
First Call for Project Proposals 2006 - due date: 5 May 2006. In May 2003 an agreement on science and technology between the governments of South African and Spain was signed. This was followed two years later by a protocol aimed at its implementation. The protocol also sought to facilitate scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries in the fields of natural sciences and engineering through supporting collaboration between South African and Spanish researchers from universities, universities of technology, science councils and public research institutes on an equal and mutually beneficial basis.
Knowledge Interchange and Collaboration (KIC) - CALL CLOSED
KIC Grants include: Free Standing Travel Grants (e.g. Research Visits Overseas, Foreign Research Fellows), Mobility and Training Grants, Short Term Travel Grants for Science Councils, Museums and National Facilities, Directed Travel Grants (e.g. Synchrotron Capacity Development Grants. Focus on Africa collaboration) and Scientific Events (e.g. Keynote Speakers). The closing date for applications is: 5 May 2006. Call for Proposals 2006: South African Swedish Research Partnership Programme - CALL CLOSED
In November 1999, an agreement was signed between the South African and Swedish governments creating the South African – Swedish Research Partnership Programme which seeks to fulfil objectives. These include new knowledge and understanding in fields of mutual concern in all disciplines; research excellence; a basis for long-term research co-operation; research capacity development and the internationalisation of South African and Swedish higher education institutions. Due date: 4 May 2006.

Call for Proposals 2006: Southern African Co-operation Fund for Scientific Research and Technology Development - CALL CLOSED
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has made an opportunity available for regional collaboration in the field of S&T through this research partnership programme between South African researchers and their partners in the SADC region. This fund aims to provide finance for small joint research projects in the 12 NEPAD S&T flagships. Closing date: 17 February 2006.

Call for proposals: CNRS/NRF Agreement - CALL CLOSED
The object of the call is primarily to fund new exchanges between the CNRS scientific community in France and researchers attached to higher education institutions in South Africa. The call for proposals includes all themes of research. Proposals must be submitted jointly by a principal investigator for each country. Closing date: 31 January 2006.

UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Fellowships - CALL CLOSED
UNESCO has invited young postgraduate researchers in developing countries with a Master’s degree (or equivalent) to apply for fellowships, each worth a maximum of US$6,000 to US$10,000, through the UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowship Programme, financed by Japan through funds-in-trust dedicated to the development of human resources. The programme – named after the late Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi who was known for his commitment to development issues – offers a total of 20 fellowships to researchers active in one of four fields: the environment, inter-cultural dialogue, information and communication technology, and peaceful conflict resolution. This is the sixth year running that Japan has awarded these grants.

Call for applications: Switzerland-South Africa Seminars - CALL CLOSED
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) - in cooperation with the NRF - invites scientists in Switzerland to submit proposals for Joint Swiss-South African Scientific Seminars to be held either in Switzerland or in South Africa between 1 June 2006 and 31 May 2007. The seminars generally aim at strengthening the ties between Swiss and South African scientists. They provide for a platform for the creation of new networks which should result in intensified research cooperation. Closing date: 11 November 2005.

Joint Call for Proposals: France South Africa Bilateral Agreement - CALL CLOSED
This programme aims to develop the relationship between the French and South African scientific communities through research. The purpose is to encourage an exchange between researchers and to develop a synergy between the two scientific communities, thereby developing a durable network. South African researchers are encouraged to involve partners in the SADC region where possible. Closing date: Monday 17 October 2005.

Call: South Africa Japan Reasearch Partnership Programme - CALL CLOSED
The 2005/6 call for proposals has been issued. The NRF, South Africa and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 4 March 2005. The purpose of the MOU is to strengthen cooperation between JSPS and NRF on scientific research, to promote and support cooperation between scientific institutions in Japan and South Africa in all fields of research. Deadline: 9 September 2005 at 16:30.
