IRS launches NRF Access to Information Manual

In order to present a balanced and understandable assessment of its position, the NRF strives to ensure that its reporting and disclosure procedures to stakeholders are relevant, clear and effective. The Promotion of Access to Information Act gives effect to the right of access to information as enshrined in the South African Constitution. The NRF views this as not merely an issue of legal compliance, but rather an opportunity to deal with information management in a holistic and integrated manner. The NRF places great emphasis on fostering a culture of transparency and accountability and continues to subscribe to the principles of openness, integrity, accountability and responsibility to stakeholders. With this in mind, the NRF has released its revised manual in compliance with the Act and we trust that this will assist you in requesting information from the NRF.

The NEXUS Database System consists of a set of databases mainly related to the humanities and social sciences through which it provides information on current and completed research projects, NRF funded projects, professional associations, as well as on forthcoming conferences.

The NRF with the funding from the Carnegie Corporation of New York facilitates and coordinates digitisation initiatives at a national level. An audit was conducted to establish the state of digitisation in the country, that is, to identify the digitisation projects currently taking place, including potential projects for digitisation in South Africa

The programme secondly maintains the South African Data Archive, an archive of computerised raw quantitative data of large scale regional, national and international research projects mainly in the humanities and social sciences and makes these datasets available to the research community for further analysis, comparative studies, longitudinal studies, teaching and decision-making purposes.

The South African Network of Skills Abroad links skilled people living abroad who wish to make a contribution to South Africa's economic and social development and connects them with local experts and projects.
