The National Research Foundation (NRF) is hosting the South Africa/Mexico Joint Researchers’ Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing. During 13-15 March, the workshop will also include a site visit to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) facilities.
This is the fourth in a series of workshops in specific fields between South Africa and Mexico, including agriculture and astronomy, building on the agreement of cooperation formalised during 2016. At the opening session of the workshop, His Excellency Mauricio Escanero, Ambassador of Mexico to the Republic of South Africa expressed his support for an innovative and forward-looking framework of engagement between the two countries, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology.
The workshop brings together eighteen experts in advanced manufacturing, eleven from South Africa and seven from Mexico, and focusses on Robotics and Additive Manufacturing, directed research questions, and challenges and opportunities within each focus area.
Following this workshop the NRF and the Mexico National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) are planning to publish the first joint call for proposals between the two countries, expected during April 2017.
