On 4-5 December 2017, the National Research Foundation’s Knowledge Advancement and Support (KAS) Directorate, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) hosted a concluding conference of the third Phase of the SA/ Norway Research Co-operation on Climate Change, the Environment and Clean Energy (SANCOOP). Phase III of SANCOOP started in 2014 and will lapse the end of December 2017.

Inland fisheries are highly relevant in southern Africa because they provide an opportunity for socio-economic benefits including, jobs, rural livelihoods, food security and economic development based on the small-scale fishing and recreational fishing value chains. Sustainable development in this sector will require capacity to assess and manage fisheries to ensure sustainable utilisation and promote the economic and social well-being of the harvesting fisheries.
Cape Town, Today (05 December 2017) iThemba LABS, a National Research Facility managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF), signed a cooperation agreement with the French National Institute of Nuclear Sciences and Technology (INSTN). The agreement paves the way for the creation of the South African Institute for Nuclear Technology and Sciences (SAINTS).
