SA Students Accepted to IIASA’s YSSP Programme

Two PhD students, Luckson Muyemeki (North West University) and Mozzamil Mohammed (Stellenbosch University) have been accepted to participate in the prestigious Young Scientists Summer Programme (YSSP) hosted by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in 2018. Since 1977, approximately 50 students across the world are annually accepted to participate in IIASA's YSSP. The students will be working with the Air Quality & Greenhouse Gases (AIR) and Evolution and Ecology (EEP) Research Programs.

Marine Biologists to Launch a One of a Kind Book on SA’s Marine Invertebrates

The South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON), in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), will be launching a unique, first of its kind book in South Africa. The book titled Field Guide to the Offshore Marine Invertebrates of South Africa will be launched at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town this coming Thursday, 10 May 2018.

Next Einstein Forum, Rwanda - Science Africa Workshop

The National Research Foundation (NRF) through the Science Granting Councils Initiative in sub-Saharan Africa (SGCI) co-hosted a prominent pre-event to the 2018 Next Einstein Forum in Kigali, Rwanda on Pan-African Initiatives for Research Capacity Building. Top spot for Phakeng

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, currently the deputy vice-chancellor for research and internationalisation at UCT, has been appointed by Council as the new vice-chancellor of the university with effect from 1 July 2018. Professor Phakeng will take over from Dr Max Price, who has held the position since 2008.

The UCT Council congratulated Professor Phakeng on reaching this milestone in her career.
