The African Doctoral Academy (ADA) hosted 25 doctoral students for a week-long seminar on research-policy-practice during the first week of January 2015. These young scholars, representing 20 nationalities, are part of the Southern African Young Scientists Summer Programme (SA-YSSP) – an initiative of the NRF, DST and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) (http://www.iiasa.ac.at/).
The European Union has granted 2 million Euros for EU Space Awareness (EUSPACE-AWE) Project, focusing on the excitement of astronomy and space to attract young people into science and technology and stimulate global citizenship. The project will show children and teenagers the opportunities offered by astronomy, space science and engineering and inspire primary-school children when their curiosity is high and their value systems are being formed.
