SASAC Emerging Researchers Programme – 2018

The third iteration of the Southern African Systems Analysis Centre’s (SASAC) Emerging Researchers Programme was successfully held in South Africa at the Universities of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg) and Limpopo (Polokwane) during 20 August to 7 September 2018. Twenty (20) researchers from Benin, Cameroun, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and other IIASA NMO countries (Austria and Germany) participated in the 2018 programme.

New fossils from north China shed light on the incremental evolution of insect-eating dinosaurs

An international research team today announces the discovery of two new Chinese dinosaurs: Bannykus and Xiyunykus. Professor Jonah Choiniere from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa was a leading member of the team and is co-author on the research.

Government launches research chairs focused on waste management

Government has launched South Africa's first ever research chairs on waste management, aimed at transforming the sector while contributing to the country's socio-economic development.

The new chairs under the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) – the South African Research Chair in Waste and Climate, and in Waste and Society – were launched in Pretoria today.

Dr Lucia Anelich

Dr Lucia Anelich appointed as President-Elect of IUFoST

In a first for South Africa, Dr Lucia Anelich (Pr.Sci.Nat.) has been elected as President-Elect of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), to become President in 2020. She is the existing Chair of the Scientific Council of IUFoST, and currently President of the South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST), which is an IUFoST Adhering Body. IUFoST membership consists of 60 adhering bodies representing more than 150 000 food scientists and technologists throughout the world.

KAS Hosts Nursing Intervention Workshop

On Wednesday, 01 August 2018, the National Research Foundation’s Knowledge Advancement and Support (KAS) directorate hosted the Nursing Intervention Workshop for the candidates involved in the NRF/SANTRUST Doctoral Programme. The aim of the workshop was to afford the Doctoral candidates an opportunity to showcase their studies and the support they received from the programme.
