Ground-breaking scientific discoveries are rarely made by a single individual. Instead, it is often the efforts of a team working collaboratively that result in the types of research that profoundly benefit society. This was certainly the case for Professor Bongani Mayosi, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town, and his team when they discovered the gene responsible for Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricle Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) which can cause sudden death in people younger than 35, particularly during athletic activity.
