Young Science Communicators Competition

Divisions:
SAASTA

SAASTA, Saturday Star and SAfm formed a partnership to present the Young Science Communicators Competition, with the aim to develop the communication skills of young scientists. The competition is open to South Africans aged between 20 and 35 who are enrolled at a South African higher education institution or working at a SA science council.

Entrants are required to write a 700-word article in plain English on any scientific or science-related subject to inform and entertain the readers of The Saturday Star, or to send a script (maximum 1500 words) on any scientific or science-related subject for a five minute audio drama to be inserted as an item on SAfm’s science programme. The subject of the entry should preferably be in the entrant’s own research field.

The prizes normally consist of R10 000 cash prizes for finalists, a sponsored trip to a science communication conference in the US or Europe, publication of the winning article in The Saturday Star, and having the winning script produced and broadcast on SAfm.
