The Knowledge Fields Development Directorate is mandated to promote new knowledge creation, push the boundaries of existing knowledge, and stimulate and develop associated research capacity across the entire spectrum of knowledge fields. In partial fulfilment of this mandate, the Directorate is strategically focused on:
1. Facilitating the advancement of existing knowledge;
2. Facilitating activities that stimulate or enable the creation of new knowledge;
3. Promoting interactions between researchers;
4. Strengthening scientific and professional organisations;
5. Encouraging and enabling networking;
6. Investigating and analysing research interests and trends.
The Directorate's focus stimulates knowledge and capacity development by, inter alia:
1. Highlighting research interests, trends, gaps and strengths;
2. Building research networks and enabling skills and ideas exchange;
3. Partnering with scientific and professional organisations so as to inform and empower their members;
4. Initiating support for new and emerging research fields.
