Divisions:
SAASTA
One of the three “pillars” of the NRF is science advancement which, among others, means that SAASTA works closely with other NRF business units, science facilities and government departments to ensure that there is a coordinated science outreach programme.
The DST partners with SAASTA to fulfil this mandate. SAASTA is the implementing agency for numerous DST initiatives such as:
National Science Week: A countrywide celebration of science with the focus on the youth, adults, the public and communities.
Platform/Thematic Areas: The Department of Science and Technology’s focus areas such as astronomy, biosciences, Antarctica and African origins (which includes Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Palaeontology and Archaeology).
Science Centre Networks: The Science Centre Networks programme covers projects and initiatives of the DST that relate to the provision of skills and capacity to the community of science centres in the country.
