The main purpose of the Directorate is to facilitate and drive the NRF in the creation and maintenance of an internal and external environment that promotes and supports quality, science intelligence, systematic identification, monitoring and evaluation, optimisation and active management of intellectual assets that are either in the form of explicit or tacit knowledge for policy and strategic advice, and rational decision-making.
Although located within RISA, the role of KM&E is a cross-cutting one aimed at developing and maintaining the NRF as a knowledge-based organisation by facilitating knowledge generation, access to and utilisation of data and information.
