File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service at SADA

SADA recently started releasing its codebooks, which were previously available only in hardcopy, in MS Word Format and Portable Document Format (PDF) via our website. Making data available via FTP is the latest of SADA' s expansion of online services to serve the social sciences research community better and more efficiently. SADA is encouraging users to take advantage of the data transfer capabilities afforded by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to download their data.

Why FTP Service?

  • FTP promotes the sharing of data within a short period of time. Due to inevitable delays which can arise when ordering data on CDROMs and diskettes, FTP service facilitates quick access to data.
  • FTP transfers data reliably and efficiently. The integrity and accuracy of the data is maximized by the electronic transfer when compared to other media like CDROMs and diskettes.

How to Identify Studies that may be FTP'D?

In order to identify the studies that can be FTP'd please view the list of studies available at http://www.nrf.ac.za/sada/codebook.html. These studies have both machine-readable documentation in PDF and MS Word formats and data which can be FTP'd. The codebooks mainly comprise of the study description, a questionnaire and a record layout or codelist.

How to Place a Data Order Using FTP Service?

  • Profile name/Server name: e.g. Punnie
  • Host name/Address: e.g. 145. 89. 118. 266
