SADA Online Survey09.03.01: As part of its commitment to keep in line with international trends in data archiving, and its responsibility to provide an enhanced service to the South African research community, SADA is undertaking a survey with the aim of obtaining feedback on its current and future activities, as well as user requirements and preferences. We would gladly appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes to complete our survey, which is available online. It will take just a few minutes to complete. You may also download a copy of the survey in either MS Word or Portable Document Format (PDF) and fax it to SADA on +27 (0)12 481 4020 or e-mail it at SADA@nrf.ac.za.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service at SADA06.10.00: SADA recently started releasing its codebooks, which were previously available only in hardcopy, in MS Word Format and Portable Document Format (PDF) via our website. Making data available via FTP is the latest of SADA' s expansion of online services to serve the social sciences research community better and more efficiently. SADA Electronic Documentation Initiative Goes Online29.09.00: Since SADA's inception 7 years ago, the landscape within which SADA operates has changed dramatically in terms of technology available. SADA adopted the World Wide Web to expand its range of online services, including the implementation of the Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) for producing electronic documents. To make this facility more user-friendly, SADA has now released some of its codebooks, which were previously available only in hardcopy, in MS Word format and PDF via our web site. Networked Social Science Tools and Resources (NESSTAR)05.07.00: In June 1999, SADA participated in an introductory training course on the use and implementation of the NESSTAR software system at the UK Data Archive. Training for advanced users was provided in June 2000, at which SADA was also represented. After some discussion, it was decided to implement the NESSTAR system at SADA, in order to make our catalogues and data available through the Internet. More...
SADA's Access to Statistics South Africa Data15.06.00: The South African Data Archive (SADA) and Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) have recently reached an agreement, whereby SADA has now been granted permission to distribute data from Statistics South Africa according to the normal terms and conditions under which SADA distributes data. In terms of the agreement, data from Statistics South Africa will be distributed to bona fide researchers in the higher education sector. More...
