South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP)
SANAP Development Grants
Researchers in the SANAP programme are invited to submit development grant funding for SANAP development grants in the 2009/10 financial year.
These grants focus attention on requests for short-term interventions designed to address developmental needs, in line with the objectives of SANAP and the Antarctic Research Strategy for South Africa (ARESSA), and may take the form of:
workshops
meetings
roundtable discussions
capacity building interventions
any other relevant research development activity e.g. The Antarctic Winter School
Applications for SANAP development grants can be directed to the NRF for the duration of the 2009/10 financial year and should be submitted on the standardised template to Candice Steele (candice@nrf.ac.za).
NOTE: No further applications will be considered for SANAP Development grants in 2009, as there has been a 100% take-up of the budget for the year.
SANAP Bibliographic Database [ Access the database ]
The NRF announces the launch of the South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP) Bibliographic Database. It is intended as a useful resource and platform for researchers embarking on sub-Antarctic and Antarctic research. This database is a central repository of 2492 records, including books, scientific and popular publications, as well as theses. The current records span from 1847 to the present; and will be updated on an annual basis to capture the annual research outputs as listed by active grantholders. Comments on or additions to the database can be sent to Candice@nrf.ac.za or tracy@nrf.ac.za.
* For more background info about SANAP activities visit the website: www.sanap.org.za. In 2003, Cabinet approved the transfer of the scientific research functions of SANAP from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) to the Department of Science and Technology (DST). DEAT however retains responsibility for the logistics and infrastructure, while the National Research Foundation is the agency responsible for grant making on behalf of the DST.
