Call for Applications for 2010 funding: Scholarships and fellowships
The call for applications for Master's and doctoral scholarships as well as Postdoctoral Fellowships is now open. Please note that the NRF closing dates for these applications are as follows:
- Master's and doctoral scholarship - 15 August 2009 (Check your intended institution’s internal closing date as it may be prior to this date)
- Postdoctoral Fellowships - 31 July 2009 (Check your intended institution’s internal closing date as it may be prior to this date)
Applicants who have previously registered on NRF Online will be able to access the Interim system with the SAME ID AND PASSWORD they use for NRF Online and MUST NOT REGISTER on NRF Interim again.
Applicants who have registered on NRF Online recently and are unable to access the NRF Interim system with their NRF Online ID and password, should please register with the same ID and password on NRF Interim system.
With effect from 2010, there will be no block grants for Innovation Master's scholarships since they will be awarded in an open competition (see Manual for Scholarships and Fellowship for 2010). Honours candidates receiving support in 2009 under the Innovation Scholarships will not automatically receive Master's scholarships as was the case previously.

Scholarships and Fellowships Programme
Provisional awards for fellowships in the following categories for support in 2008/9:
- NRF Free-standing Postdoctoral Fellowships for research in South Africa
- NRF Free-standing Postdoctoral Fellowships for research Abroad
- Innovation Postdoctoral Fellowships for research in South Africa
The letters of award to the successful candidates will be forwarded to them in due course. In the case of candidates on the Innovation Postdoctoral Fellowships lists, their letters of award will only be sent out once the host institution accepts the conditions of these awards.

German grant program
The German Foreign Ministry will be conducting a pilot project to support corporate foundations
in the area of information and communication technology in emerging and developing countries.
The programme will primarily focus on the personal qualifications of future entrepreneurs. In 2009, 10 candidates will have the opportunity to continue and
deepen their studies in Germany, to establish contacts with German companies and to advance the
foundation of their own company. The deadline for application is 25 July 2008. Click here to find out more.
Bursaries: Theoretical Physics graduate level bursaries in 2009 (NITheP)
The National Institute for Theoretical Physics (NITheP) offers bursaries in 2009 on the Honours, Masters and Doctoral levels for students studying in Theoretical Physics or a closely related discipline. These bursaries are available at ALL South African tertiary institutions. There is no official deadline and applications will be considered into 2009. Review of applications is expected to start on Monday, 8 December 2008.
