Effective research and innovation partnerships with both academic and non-academic partners; and across borders are an increasingly strategic component in the internationalisation agenda of nations and regions. The implementation of African Union’s Agenda 2063, and its Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategy (STISA 2024) will be further enhanced through strategic partnerships and collaborations within and beyond the region.
The Global Research Council (GRC) Africa Regional Meeting and the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) Annual Forum was hosted by the Fundo Nacional De Investigacao (FNI), Mozambique, in partnership with the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa during 23-25 November 2016.
During 25-29 April 2016, the German Research Foundation (DFG) hosted representatives of 12 African Science Granting Councils in Königswinter, Germany for a collaborative engagement. This marks the first activity in close cooperation with the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) where an opportunity is leveraged with research funding agencies outside the African continent for collaborative learning on the different structures of research funding organisations, and their research management processes.
