IDRC and the National Research Foundation announce winning projects under new South Africa-Canada Research Chairs Initiative
July 4, 2017 NAIROBI – Today, Jean Lebel, President of Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and Dr. Molapo Qhobela, CEO of South Africa’s National Research Foundation (NRF), announced the winning projects under the new South Africa–Canada Research Chairs Initiative.
The Global Research Council (GRC) Africa Regional Meeting and the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) Annual Forum was hosted by the Fundo Nacional De Investigacao (FNI), Mozambique, in partnership with the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa during 23-25 November 2016.
During 25-29 April 2016, the German Research Foundation (DFG) hosted representatives of 12 African Science Granting Councils in Königswinter, Germany for a collaborative engagement. This marks the first activity in close cooperation with the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) where an opportunity is leveraged with research funding agencies outside the African continent for collaborative learning on the different structures of research funding organisations, and their research management processes.
The NRF hosted a senior delegation from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Canada to discuss the NRF’s evolving partnership with this established and influential aid agency. Senior members of the IDRC executive, as well as from the IDRC Board, included the NRF in their Africa visit programme, hosted by IRC and Dr van Jaarsveld.
