South Africa & Iran enhance science relations between the two countries

On 31 May 2000 the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran (MSRT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective of enhancing scientific relations between the two countries. With this Agreement, the Parties are currently supporting six (6) research projects in the fields of biotechnology, marine and oceanographic studies. The National Research Foundation (NRF) and the MSRT, are the implementing agencies of this agreement.

South Africa’s Science and Technology Visit to Iran, 11-12 November 2017

The NRF's Knowledge Advancement and Support (KAS) Directorate, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), made a Ministerial visit to Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran on 11-12 November 2017. The South African delegation was led by H.E. Minister Naledi Pandor who met with different Iranian Ministers including H.E. Prof Mansour Gholami, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Vice President for Science and Technology, Minister of Health and Medical Education, and Minister of Energy.

IRC Hosts Iranian Researchers at Marine Conference

The International Relations and Cooperation (IRC) directorate, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, is hosting representatives from the Iranian research community in Cape Town for a combined researchers’ conference and workshop on Oceanography and Marine Sciences from 16-20 February 2016. The Iranian delegation is led by Dr Nasser Zaker, Secretary of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Pretoria.

NRF Hosts Iranian Delegation

The NRF's International Relations and Cooperation (IRC) business unit hosted a delegation from Iran 29 July 2015. The purpose of the visit by the group, which consisted of representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Reseach and Technology (MSRT), the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (NIGEB) and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was to discuss joint research collaboration between the two countries as well as the Researchers’ Workshop on Biotechnology which is to be held in Tehran, Iran in November.
