Dr Lucia Anelich appointed as President-Elect of IUFoST

In a first for South Africa, Dr Lucia Anelich (Pr.Sci.Nat.) has been elected as President-Elect of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), to become President in 2020. She is the existing Chair of the Scientific Council of IUFoST, and currently President of the South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST), which is an IUFoST Adhering Body. IUFoST membership consists of 60 adhering bodies representing more than 150 000 food scientists and technologists throughout the world.

Prof Loyiso Nongxa elected as Vice-President of the International Mathematical Union (IMU)

Prof Loyiso Nongxa has been elected as a Vice-President of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) during its Annual General Meeting held during 29-30 July in Brazil. The IMU is a prominent global organisation, established in 1920, and a member of the International Science Council (ISC). The ISC was created in 2018 following the merger between the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC).

South Africa's Professor Daya Reddy has been elected as the first President of the newly-formed International Science Council (ISC)

Prof Daya Reddy Elected as President of the International Science Council

South Africa's Professor Daya Reddy has been elected as the first President of the newly-formed International Science Council (ISC). The elections took place during the inaugural General Assembly in Paris, France (03-05 July 2018). The ISC was formed following the merger of the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the International Council for Science (ICSU). Prof Reddy has held the position of President-elect of ICSU since 2014.

The NRF is also pleased to confirm that Dr Saths Cooper was elected to the cohort of Ordinary Members.
