How is the NRF contributing to the National Development Plan?

South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) is a detailed blueprint for how the country can eliminate poverty and reduce inequality by the year 2030. 

The NDP proposes 14 outcomes, and the NRF is actively contributing towards at least eight of these outcomes in the following ways.

World Science Day for Peace and Development: 10 November 2017

Today we celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development. Declared by UNESCO in 2001, according to the organisation the purpose of this day is to renew the national and international commitment to science for peace and development as well as emphasise the importance of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.

The theme for this year is “Science for Global Understanding” which aims to promote the commitment of individuals and local communities in sharing knowledge about science to inspire action and change. 

Imbizo on Agricultural Education and Training

The National Development Plan (NDP) for South Africa notes that a significant resurgence of agricultural education and training (AET) is urgently required. A clear outcome of this resurgence should be that AET contributes to a significant increase in job creation in the agricultural sector in South Africa.
