Professor Malik Maaza, recipient of the 2018  JOSÉ VASCONCELOS World Award of Education 

World Cultural Council acknowledges NRF Physicist with the World Award of Education

The World Cultural Council (WCC) bestowed National Research Foundation (NRF)’s Professor Malik Mâaza with the JOSÉ VASCONCELOS World Award of Education for 2018 for his positive impact on the cultural legacy of mankind. The announcement of the award was made yesterday, on Monday 04 June 2018 at the City University of Hong Kong, while the award itself will be conferred to Professor Maaza at the 35th World Cultural Council Award Ceremony which will take place at the same venue on Thursday 8 November 2018.

Next Einstein Forum, Rwanda - Science Africa Workshop

The National Research Foundation (NRF) through the Science Granting Councils Initiative in sub-Saharan Africa (SGCI) co-hosted a prominent pre-event to the 2018 Next Einstein Forum in Kigali, Rwanda on Pan-African Initiatives for Research Capacity Building. The workshop was co-hosted by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and Rwanda’s National Council for Science and Technology (NCST).

World Science Day for Peace and Development: 10 November 2017

Today we celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development. Declared by UNESCO in 2001, according to the organisation the purpose of this day is to renew the national and international commitment to science for peace and development as well as emphasise the importance of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.

The theme for this year is “Science for Global Understanding” which aims to promote the commitment of individuals and local communities in sharing knowledge about science to inspire action and change.
