Introduction

"Using the Internet for research" doesn't just mean using it to find information which other people have created; the World Wide Web offers researchers a valuable means of distributing research-related information.  

This Yenza! section was initially developed to accompany face-to-face workshop training and provide ongoing support for participants. It aims to equip users with an understanding of how Web sites are constructed, along with the basic level of technical skills necessary to construct a site. These web pages will not teach you everything there is to know about Web site development, but after working through this section you should be in a good position to

  • Teach yourself more about building a Web site
  • Identify areas in which you might want formal training
  • Know what to ask for if someone else is developing a site for you
  • Be able to undertake routine maintenance on a site which has been developed for you
  • Contribute to the conceptualization of a site, even if you are not involved at the technical level
  • Understand the potential for Web development in your department, unit or faculty
