South
African electronic discussion lists
One of the
many ways in which the Internet has expanded possibilities for researchers
is in providing them with ready access to electronic conferences and
discussions. These are typically focused around a specialized topic and
require participants to "subscribe" or register to become part of a
"mailing list" or "listserver". Registering does not imply any need for
payment of a subscription: it is just a means of recording your e-mail
address and adding you to an automatic distribution list. Some
mailing lists function as electronic discussion groups, others as alerting
services.
The following
is a selection of South-Africa related lists which may interest women
researchers/academics in the South Africa as well as abroad.
GAIN (discussion group) GAIN aims to
facilitate communication, discussion and information sharing between
organisations and people interested in gender and women's issues in
Africa. As a network, GAIN is committed to making indigenous information
on women and gender valued, visible and accessible globally and
participate in the global information society in order to promote gender
justice and women's rights in Africa. More information is available at http://www.womensnet.org.za/links/gainbroch.htm.
