Biography Dr Eugene Lottering Introduction Dr Eugene Lottering is the National Research Foundation (NRF) Deputy CEO: Research and Innovation Support and Advancement (RISA). Experience Dr Lottering is a former Executive Director at the NRF and was CEO of the National Innovation Fund, a R1 billion fund that specialised in high-risk investments in science, engineering, and technology applications, leading to the establishment of a commercial enterprise. The National Innovation Fund and its programmes became the foundation of what is today the Technology Innovation Agency.After being recruited from the NRF, he was appointed Managing Director of Specpharm Holdings (Pty) Ltd where he built and led a team of experienced professionals engaged in regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical production, marketing and sales. During his tenure, he helped to transform the company into a vertically-integrated pharmaceutical producer and one of the few Black-owned pharmaceutical companies in the country.Dr Lottering is currently involved in several entrepreneurial projects in the Southern African Development Region in the mining, energy, and pharmaceutical sectors, including being the CEO of Msizi Pharma, a start-up company whose objective is to manufacture active pharmaceutical ingredients for anti-retroviral drugs used against HIV. He also serves as a Scientific Advisor on Innovation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Lottering has served on several Boards, including being the Chairperson of HealthiChoices (Pty) Ltd.Dr Lottering holds a business qualification from IMD in Switzerland and a PhD in Medical Microbiology and immunology from the University of Louisville in the USA.
