Professor Saurabh Sinha is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). He obtained his BEng, MEng and PhD degrees in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pretoria and completed an Advanced Management Program from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. A registered professional engineer, he has held the position of Industrial Consultant for Business Enterprises at the University of Pretoria (Pty) Ltd where he served a number of industrial sectors, both public and private. Prior to joining UJ, Prof Sinha served UP for over a decade, his last position as Director of the Carl and Emily Fuchs Institute for Microelectronics in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. He was also appointed Extraordinary Professor (2013-2017) at UP. In 2013 he was appointed Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) at the University of Johannesburg and was appointed to his current position in 2017. In 2022, he received a U.S. Fulbright Fellowship. He pursued his research sabbatical/fellowship at Princeton University.

Prof Sinha has authored or co-authored over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and at international conferences over the course of his career and is the managing editor of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) Africa Research Journal. He is a rated researcher of the National Research Foundation (NRF); a Fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering, the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; as well as a member of ASSAf. He is an active member of several professional societies. His significant roles include being the 2014/5 IEEE Vice-President: Educational Activities and member of the IEEE Board of Directors. He is a former member of the Metropolitan Trading Company (MTC) Board (a City of Johannesburg-owned entity); former Chair of its Social, Ethics and HR Committee. He Chairs the Board of the Resolution Circle (RC), a UJ-owned company geared towards technical professional education and served as interim chair of UJ Invnt, the UJ holding company for commercialisation of intellectual property. Under his leadership, RC had a strategic turnaround towards profit.

His many accolades include the 2007 SAIEE Engineer of the Year Award; the 2010 UP Laureate Award; and 2013 TW Kambule NRF-NSTF Award for his outstanding contribution to Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI) through research and its outputs. Aside from this, he has received a number of international accolades.

Prof Saurabh Sinha serves as the Chairperson of the Remuneration & HR Committee and a member of the Board Procurement Committee.
