The u’GOOD research programme, a multilateral, multi-partner, and multi-year partnership between Fondation Botnar, the National Research Foundation (South Africa) and the Human Sciences Research Council (South Africa), seeks to accelerate research into the wellbeing of young people, particularly those who live in the Global South. More specifically, it seeks to draw on the recent exciting insights and advances in scholarship on relational wellbeing. A focus on relational wellbeing offers important opportunities for advancing social inquiry, understanding problems, and elevating solutions for young people in innovative ways.
Relational wellbeing posits that wellbeing is inherently relational, co-constructed in relationships between people, with the environment, through beliefs (cultures, traditions, religions), societal structures and the policy and support landscape. In addition to developing relational wellbeing as a theoretical and conceptual approach, the research programme will fund applied research at the intersection of youth wellbeing and livelihoods, climate change, mental health, and digitalisation.
