Professor Ernst Conradie

A lecturer in systematic theology and ethics, Prof Ernst Conradie’s research focuses on the intersection between ecotheology, systematic theology and ecumenical theology. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Stellenbosch University and has lectured at the University of the Western Cape since 1993, where he is currently a senior professor in the Department of Religion and Theology.

Since 2017, he has authored three academic monographs, three other books in Afrikaans and edited eight volumes, together with 45 peer-reviewed journal articles and 40 other essays. He is the editor of an envisaged series of twelve volumes entitled An Earthed Faith: Telling the story amid the Anthropocene.

He is a co-editor of Scriptura and an editorial board member of Zygon. He was the chairperson of the Theological Society of South Africa; is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa; and a Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion.

At UWC he has won the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award; several book prizes; and an award for best PhD supervisor. He also won the Andrew Murray Prize for theological publications in Afrikaans three times.
