Electrical Engineering Dr Bonginkosi Allen ThangoDepartment of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, University of Johannesburg A senior lecturer at the University of Johannesburg, Dr Bonginkosi Allen Thango’s research focuses on the areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning, metaheuristics, predictive maintenance and renewable energy and includes electrotechnology, technology management and power electronics in his teaching.He completed his Master’s and PhD in electrical engineering at Tshwane University of Technology and an MBA at UJ. He is currently completing his PhD in business science at the University of the Witwatersrand. He spent time in the private sector working as an engineering technologist and bids and contract engineer, before moving to academia where he worked as a lecturer at TUT and UJ before taking up his current position.Since 2020 he has published 36 conference papers and 39 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Machines, Applied Sciences and Processes. In addition, he has published two books—Technical Challenges in the Commercialization of Transformers for Solar Photovoltaic Technology Applications and Analysis of Distributed Solar Photovoltaic System Harmonics on Transformers, the latter as sole author.Dr Thango holds an NRF Y-rating; was named one of the Mail and Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans in the category of technology and innovation; and was also a finalist for the TransUnion: Rising Star Award. He is a member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE).
