Chemical Engineering Ms Caressa MunienDepartment of Chemical Engineering, Durban University of Technology Ms Caressa Munien is a qualified chemical engineer and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Engineering (DEng) at the Durban University of Technology where she also earned her Master’s of Engineering (Chemical) cum laude. She gained valuable industry experience as a process engineer at the SAPREF Refinery and Nalco Water, which uniquely positioned her to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application in water treatment technologies. Additionally, as a project manager at Brainnest Germany, she worked on global projects in the water treatment and petrochemical sectors.Ms Munien actively applies her expertise in the Green Engineering Research Group (GERD) at DUT, where her research focus area is in water and wastewater treatment, particularly advanced oxidation processes, which are critical in addressing the global water-energy nexus crisis.She has published articles in prominent scientific journals and presented at numerous leading conferences. She has earned Platinum Awards for her contributions and for demonstrating her excellence in scientific advancement. Her vision is to drive impactful research that supports sustainable water and energy solutions aligned with the African Union and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
