Ms Anathi Msobo

Department of Biochemistry. University of Johannesburg

Ms Anathi Msobo is a PhD candidate in Biochemistry at the University of Johannesburg, where her research integrates machine learning and metabolomics to accelerate antiviral drug discovery from medicinal plants. She holds an MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Johannesburg, as well as a BSc Honours degree in Biochemistry and a BSc degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Fort Hare. Alongside her doctoral research, Ms Msobo serves as a Practical Instructor in the Department of Biochemistry, contributing to undergraduate teaching and laboratory training. Her research has resulted in four peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences, including the Metabolomics Society Conference and the African Metabolomics Conference, where she received the Second-Best Poster Presentation Award.

Her research advances AI-driven natural product drug discovery by integrating computational and metabolomics approaches to identify novel antiviral compounds and strengthen data-driven strategies for combating emerging viral diseases.
