1st A-Rating Professor De Wet Swanepoel Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology University of Pretoria Professor De Wet Swanepoel is a leading international scholar in accessible ear and hearing care, in particular teleaudiology. He research is primarily focused on making ear and hearing health accessible in low- and middle-income countries, using novel digital technologies and service-delivery models. His primary affiliation is with the University of Pretoria where he obtained his PhD in Audiology. He has held adjunct positions at the University of Texas and the University of Western Australia and served as an Invited Professor to the University of Orebro, Sweden. Prof Swanepoel is the co-developer of hearScreenTM, an award-winning patented smartphone application to identify hearing loss. His recent awards include a World Academy of Science National Award and the African Academy of Science Olusegun Obasanjo Prize. Since 2014, he has produced seven book chapters; two books; 150 peer-reviewed articles; delivered 40 keynote presentations; and has supervised 15 doctoral and 42 Master’s students. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Audiology and is past president of the International Society of Audiology.
