1st A-Rating Professor Jean M-S Lubuma Department of Mathematics and Applied MathematicsUniversity of Pretoria Professor Jean M-S Lubuma’s research interests lay in the constructive, numerical and computational analysis of ordinary and partial differential equations and integral equations, with the emphasis on models that arise in Science, Engineering, Technology (SET), and life science. Prof Lubuma obtained his BSc and Honours degrees in Mathematics from the University of Kinshasa in the DRC, and his Master’s and PhD degrees from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. His positions at the University of Pretoria have included Head of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Founding Chairholder of the DSI-NRF SARChI Chair in Mathematical Models and Methods in Bioengineering and Biosciences. He was Visiting Professor and Researcher both internationally and in South Africa and is currently a Distinguished Professor at WITS. He has published in journals such as the Journal of Theoretical Biology and SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis and co-authored several book chapters. He won the SA Mathematical Society’s Award for Research Distinction and is a Fellow of the African Academy of Science; and member of the American Mathematical Society.
