1st A-Rating Professor Johan Cilliers Department of Practical Theology and MissiologyStellenbosch University Professor Johan Cilliers obtained his DTh in Practical Theology at SU and served as a Minister of Religion from 1983 to 1988. In 2001 he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at SU and was promoted to Full Professor in Homiletics and Liturgy in 2001. Although retired, he continues to serve in an academic capacity. His recent research focuses on African ritual and philosophy in South African preaching, including the role of power and religion in South Africa; the impact of the segregation at the Eucharist Table; and Koi-San rock paintings as a metaphor for african spirituality. Prof Cilliers is a member of the International Academy for Practical Theology and former president of the Societas Homiletica. He serves on the editorial boards including Practical Theology in South Africa, the Dutch Reformed Theological Journal and the International Journal of Homiletics. He has lectured as visiting scholar in Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Germany. During the past eight years, he has published four monographs, five books, seven book chapters, and 18 peer-reviewed articles.
