1st A-Rating Professor RiĆ«l Franzsen African Tax InstituteUniversity of Pretoria Professor Prof Riel Franzsen holds the DSI-NRF Research Chair in Tax Policy and Governance and is the Director of the African Tax Institute (ATI) at the University of Pretoria. He obtained his LLD in Tax Law at Stellenbosch University and a MA in Creative Writing at the University of Pretoria. He is a research fellow and course instructor with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is a member of the Board of Advisors of the International Property Tax Institute. Prof Franzsen has been the Director of the ATI since its inception in 2007. Since 2009, he has supervised or co-supervised 77 Masterās students and 18 Doctoral (PhD and LLD) students to completion ā including 30 SARChI Masterās and eight SARChI Doctoral students. He has regularly provided tax policy advice to international agencies on tax policy matters, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Over the last eight years, he has published 33 book chapters, 12 technical/policy reports, six journal articles and three books.
