Professor Tommie Meyer’s research is in the field of Artificial Intelligence, specialising in Belief Revision and Non-Monotonic Reasoning (NMR), and their application to Description Logics. He obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Computer Science at the University of Johannesburg and completed his PhD at the University of South Africa. He has held positions at various universities and research institutions, locally and abroad including Senior Lecturer at UNISA; Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria and Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong in Australia. Currently, he is a Professor in Computer Science at the University of Cape Town and the Co-Director of the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research. He is the author/co-author of more than 170 publications in peer-reviewed books, journals, conferences and workshops. He has served as Associate Editor of the two top journals on Artificial Intelligence and he led the successful bid to host the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) in Cape Town in 2023.
