Natural Sciences and Engineering Dr Andile Khathi School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences, College of Health SciencesUniversity of KwaZulu-Natal Dr Andile Khathi completed his undergraduate degree and his Honours in Medical Sciences (cum laude) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). His Master’s was upgraded to a PhD and in 2015 he graduated with a PhD in Physiology. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at UKZN. Dr Khathi leads a research team with a strong focus on prediabetes and the changes that occur in the body during this condition. He is also a member of a multi-disciplinary research team that synthesises and tests experimental metallo-compounds on the management of both diabetes and prediabetes. He created a novel animal model for diet-induced prediabetes, which was included in a World Health Organization report on the subject. He is the co-founder and chairperson of the Diabetes and Endocrine Research Society of South Africa and a Topic Editor for Frontiers in Endocrinology. He holds a Y-rating from the NRF. To date, he has published 54 publications, one book chapter and graduated five PhD and 17 Master’s students. He is currently supervising eight Master’s and 12 PhD students.
