Ms Nonsikelelo Precious Mthethwa’s research focuses on the metagenomic analysis of protozoan parasites in wastewater from the African continent and the development of a quick method for their detection, thereby addressing one of the important difficulties in water quality monitoring, particularly in poor African countries. She completed her undergraduate and Honours studies in Microbiology at the University of Zululand and her Master’s in Biotechnology from the Durban University of Technology (DUT). She published two articles from her Master’s thesis and presented her study at an international forum, “Revolutions in Renewable Energy in the Twenty-First Century,” held in Rome, Italy. Currently, she is enrolled for a PhD in Health Sciences at DUT. She was awarded a Fulbright Foreign Student Exchange Scholarship in 2022 and was selected by the UN Commission for Africa to participate in the COVID-19 Innovation Competition and Design Bootcamp Africa. She was a semi-finalist in the Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities Urban Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
