Prof Lammertsma completed his Master’s in Organic Chemistry at the University of Groningen and his PhD at the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. He has held a number of positions in academia and government including the US National Science Foundation, and Fellowships and Visiting Professorships at universities in Europe, the UK, and the USA. He is currently a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg. He has published more then 260 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Chemistry, Organometallics, and Chemical Communications and is a regular reviewer for more than 40 chemistry journals. In 2021 he was awarded the International Arbuzovs Prize in Organophosphorus Chemistry, the highest international distinction in the field of phosphorus chemistry. In the USA and Netherlands, he has supervised 27 PhD candidates and 100 Master’s students to graduation.
