Faculty of Arts and Humanities Associate Professor Sisanda NkoalaLinguistics Department University of the Western Cape Associate Professor Sisanda Nkoala is a Lecturer in Media Studies whose research focuses on critical issues of representation, language diversity, and media rhetoric. She obtained her Bachelors, Honours, Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Cape Town in the fields of Media Production, Political Communication and Rhetoric. She worked for five years as a radio reporter for the SABC and later lectured in Journalism at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where she also worked as a Language and Transformation Co-ordinator. After a short stint at UNISA, she moved to UWC, where she currently lectures. She has served with a number of organisations, including the Press Council of South Africa, the SA National Editors’ Forum, the Film and Publications Board and the SA Communications Association and was appointed to serve as a Trustee of Brand South Africa. Internationally she serves on the leadership structure of the International Association for Media and Communication Research; is the Secretary General of the African Journalism Educators Network; and an association editor of the Journal of Communication Technology. She has garnered a number of accolades over the course of her career, including the NIHSS Award for Digital Humanities for her work towards digitising the Early South African Black Press and the Emerging Women Leader in Higher Education Award from HERS-SA, among others.
