Dr Len Konar

Chairperson of the Audit & Risk Committee

Dr Len Konar is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Financial Reporting Standards Council of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and a member of the Board of PetroSA. Dr Konar completed his BCom degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He obtained his Master’s in Accounting Science at the University of Illinois and his PhD in Accounting from the University of South Africa.

He previously served as Executive Director of the Independent Development Trust where he was, amongst other activities, responsible for the Internal Audit and Investments Portfolios. Prior to that, he was Professor and Head of the Department of Accountancy at the University of Durban-Westville. He also lectured to graduate students at various South African universities. He has published numerous articles and chapters in journals, books and magazines.

He was a member of the King Committee on Corporate Governance, the Corporate Governance Forum, the Institute of Directors and the National Association of Corporate Directors (USA). Dr Konar is a past independent non-executive director of several listed, unlisted and State-owned entities. He is a mentor and supervisor to PhD and MBA candidates at GIBS, WBS and UNISA, and part-time faculty and a presenter on the MBA programmes at WBS and Executive Leadership Programmes at GIBS, WBS and Duke University Corporate Education.

Dr Len Konar serves as the Chairperson of the Audit & Risk Committee and an invitee to the Board Procurement Committee.
