Professor Lawrence MadikizelaCollege of Science, Engineering and Technology, University of South Africa, Physical Sciences Prof Lawrence Madikizela’s work focuses on the environmental monitoring of pharmaceuticals, pioneering sample preparation procedures, monitoring and remediation studies. He further researches the uptake of organics by plants as well as identification and quantitation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in marine and coastal environments. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Y-rating from the NRF. He has published 61 research articles in accredited journals including the Journal of Hazardous Materials and the Water Research Journal, and four book chapters and has supervised seven Master’s students and one PhD candidate to completion. He was a Visiting Researcher at Wits and has garnered numerous accolades including the South African Chromatographer of the Year Award and the SACI Raikes Medal among others. He was also included in The Top 40 Under 40 Power List published by the Analytical Scientist. He is currently Chairperson for ChromSA, a division of the South African Chemical Institute and serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the South African Journal of Chemistry.
