wpadmin NRF in the News December 6, 2023 South Africa is faced with the need to address energy security. This is further compounded by the country’s ageing coal fleet with associated greenhouse gas emissions, which contributes to global warming and other pollution-related health challenges. In response, South Africa is increasingly playing a key role in facilitating multi-sectoral partnership programmes aimed at accelerating a just energy transition. While there are several research and skills development programmes, these are not always responsive to industry needs and entrepreneurship opportunities. It is within this context that the National Research Foundation (NRF), Sasol Limited (Sasol), Department and Science and Innovation (DSI) and Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) have joined hands to support and explore innovation, research, and skills programmes that support a just energy transition.
